This Father’s Day, we had several people involved in different readings and prayers for the men in our midst.  It was a beautiful service and Pastor Joy brought a message on Biblical Manhood.  Below is the full recording (the sound improves significantly half-way through).

Pastor Joy used 1 Kings 2:1-3 as the foundation for what Biblical masculinity is about – taking King David’s dying words to his son, Solomon.  She also had a “myth busting” time:

Myth #1 Man = Breadwinner – FALSE!  Men provide for their families in MANY ways; not just financial.

Myth #2 – Man = Being Strong – FALSE!  Jesus showed strength through compassion, servantship, forgiveness, gentleness, patience, humbleness.

Myth #3 – Men shouldn’t cry – FALSE!  Jesus wept for his friends, for the lost, and for himself.

Myth #4 – Boys will be boys – FALSE! Males are capable of self-control!  The Greek word for self-control, listed as a Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:23 is “egkrateia;” which means “temperance: the virtue of one who masters his desires and passions, especially his sensual appetites.”

Here’s the whole message:
